Norwood homes well ahead of the National average for compliance with standards of care.

On Monday, the Quality Care Commission (QCC) published a report which stated that almost half (48%) of learning disability residential services did not meet Government standards for care and welfare. 145 impromptu inspections of NHS, private care and social care services took place, as a follow up to the mistreatment uncovered by the BBC Panorama programme at Winterbourne View Hospital in Bristol in 2011.

Over 170 young professionals attended the seventh annual YN Lawyers event last night at the London Film Museum. The event, entitled ‘The Law v Social Media’, raised an incredible £30,000 for Norwood’s vital services supporting adults with learning disabilities and children and families in need.

Learning Disability Week - Activities

This year’s Learning Disability Week will be from Monday 18 June to Sunday 24 June. The week is a great chance to take part in activities and raise awareness about the issues that are important to people with a learning disability and their families and carers. Several Norwood events will be taking place during the week.

Young supporters put the fun into fundraising for Norwood

On 10th June, with the rain at bay, Norwood hosted its first combined Junior Bike Ride, Toddlerthon and Fun Day, sponsored by cycle shop Giant Radlett. From tots to teens, over 450 cycling enthusiasts took part in either a 5 mile or 10 mile off-road adventure, while under fours also joined in the fun by taking part in a Toddlerthon. The event is on target to raise £60,000 towards Norwood’s vital work with people with learning disabilities, and children and families in need.

Norwood celebrates Patron’s Jubilee at Ravenswood

Despite the cold and wet weather, residents, staff and volunteers at Norwood’s Ravenswood Village were joined by The Mayor of Wokingham, Cllr Bob Wyatt, to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of their Patron, Her Majesty the Queen.
