Norwood receives another ‘Outstanding’ rating from CQC

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has found the quality of care provided by Norwood’s Tager Centre care home in Crowthorne, Berkshire, to be ‘Outstanding’ following an inspection in May 2018. Tager is home to 16 people on the autistic spectrum.

“The service was exceptionally responsive and strove to meet people’s aspirations and lifestyle choices. It was flexible and readily adapted to meet people’s changing, diverse and complex needs”, the report reads.

The report praised the registered manager, Sue Ravey, who “was extremely experienced, respected and highly thought of by staff, families and other professionals.”

The report also stated that Tager “was extraordinarily person centred and people were seen and responded to as individuals. Activity programmes were creative and designed to meet people’s individual preferences and choices.”

“A family member had commented within an annual survey, ‘The staff are, without exception, loving and caring – we always feel they are part of the family’.”

Elaine Kerr, Norwood’s Chief Executive, said: “I am truly thrilled that the CQC has rated Tager (our autism unit) at Ravenswood as Outstanding and is a well-deserved accolade for our amazing staff.

All credit goes to the magnificent Home Manager Sue Ravey, Operational Services Manager Darren Young, Head of Adult Services in Berkshire, Julia Hall, and all the staff at Tager. This is a remarkable achievement as it showcases our commitment to excellence across every one of our services, 100% of which are currently rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’.”

Ron Brown, Norwood Director of Services, is delighted with the report, saying that: “It clearly shows our commitment to ensuring the people we support are consistently at the heart of everything we do. It also demonstrates Norwood’s relentless drive for improvement as we continue to strive for excellence across all of our services.”

Tager is one of 12 residential care homes based at Ravenswood Village; home to 112 adults with learning disabilities and autism.
