Ayson’s Story

A long journey to work!

Ayson began his career in social care in Israel and then moved to the UK via a recruitment agency.

Ayson joined Norwood in 2003 as a support worker at a residential home in Hendon. In 2007, following an internal vacancy, he was promoted to Assistant Manager at Carlton Avenue, another residential home in Harrow.

On a typical day, Ayson spends the majority of his time assisting the people he supports to accomplish their daily activities.

“What interested me about working for Norwood was the opportunity to meet so many different people, both other staff members and those we support. It’s a real joy to see them so involved in their daily lives, and attaining something for themselves, with the right support.” says Ayson. “The best thing about working for Norwood is all the training it provides to its staff.” he adds.

Since starting his role, Norwood has provided Ayson with extensive training to equip him to do his job as best he can. He has completed the Management Development Programme, NVQ 3 and 4, Assessors Award, TSI/Active Coaching, and all the mandatory training that comes with working in the social care field.

Ayson says: “Working for Norwood has far exceeded my expectations. When I first started, I thought that being a support worker was the only role I wanted but, with support from Norwood, I realised that I could contribute more. Being part of the management team has been a challenge, but hugely rewarding. I love being able to help the people we support to take part in community activities and be counted. It’s such a great feeling when I see people I used to support gain skills do their own shopping, get paid work and so on.”
