David’s story

From Support Worker to Business Manager

David has worked for Norwood for almost 20 years, starting as a Residential Social Worker at Ravenswood.

David’s first move up the management ladder was from Support Worker to Deputy Manager at our residential home, Seymour Gardens in Redbridge. Six months later he was promoted to Manager at Crownfield Avenue, another of our residential homes.

David said. “As this was my first managerial role, and I had little experience, Norwood encouraged my development and supported me to undertake management training both internally and externally.”

He spent the next seven years managing a number of residential homes across North London and, as he became increasingly experienced, he was asked to act as a troubleshooter in low performing services and to bring them up to the Norwood and regulatory standards.

In 2001, David became the Service Manager for North East London and started to train other Norwood staff. In 2009, David was appointed to his current role of Business Manager for Supported Living in London and Berkshire.

David says: “I’ve always considered that the potential for development and growth, for each individual within Norwood, has clearly been supported. This has led to a number of people like me who have taken the opportunity for promotion wherever possible. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my journey here and believe that as Norwood, and the services it provides, continues to develop to meet the ever changing need of those we support, a myriad of opportunities will continue to arise for anyone who wishes to advance their career in Social Care in a progressive and forward thinking organisation.”
